Insight_The chosen one

Insight_The chosen one

“People don’t choose dreams, Dreams choose people.”

Destiny, Fate, Accidents, and Coincidences; We believe them to be the way things happen, the way situations are created and the  manner in which things and people beyond our control become a part of our life.

Be it an unknown helping us in a difficult situation, or we being the helping hand to others; knowingly or unknowingly it is meant to be. We may not understand it in our little lifetime, for life is too short to understand the intricacies of the universe, but there will be moments in our lives when we will realize that we are the “Chosen Ones “. Chosen for a reason, for a little gesture of kindness and for making our lives and the lives of the ones around us worth it!

Most part of this realization comes to different people at different points of time in their individual life; but one thing is common, the process of “Surrendering”.

I never wanted to be a doctor as I grew up. Seeing Mumma and Papa in administrative and academic fields always inspired me to take up something where I could voice my opinions, lead, and make a difference. Though every person/field commits and makes their valuable contribution for the betterment of oneself and its people; the idea of joining civil services always fascinated me. Even until my third year of medical school, I aspired to prepare for the same ahead.

But as days passed I realized, there were other things I was destined to do. As clinical subjects started, day to day interaction with patients began; I realized I was “chosen” for this. And when I say that, I have countless accounts of days when I have felt, that had I not been a doctor, I couldn’t have been anything better. I was and still am a small means to bring life and happiness to the ones around me; and I couldn’t ask for more.

I too have my low days, I too get disheartened and I too question my purpose and deeds in life. But as I pen this down; I wish to convey that whenever you question your existence, your real-life situations, your actions and your words; whenever the question " Why me ?" bothers you despite of morally and consciously doing the best you can; remember that you are the chosen one!

What may seem difficult shall not stay; it is momentary and only a testing phase before the new beginnings..

For some things are meant to be; and you are the selected one to make that difference!

“They are the chosen ones who have surrendered..

Once they were particles of light, now they are the radiant sun!

"In every change, in every falling leaf, there is some pain, some beauty. And that's the way new leaves grow".

Insight_Gratitude and Appreciation..

Insight_Gratitude and Appreciation...

“If you don’t show appreciation to those that deserve it, they’ll learn to stop doing the things you appreciate…”

When was the last time you appreciated someone? When was the last time you expressed your gratitude to someone who made a difference in your life however small it maybe..?

And I ask this, I don’t mean saying a “Thankyou” which we very casually say out of basic courtesy, but do not really acknowledge the effort put forward by someone…rather to genuinely acknowledging and addressing the good …

As I pen down these words I remember a conversation with papa, where he was consoling me after a bad day at work, where I felt I was not being appreciated at my workplace despite of doing really well.

I was disheartened, felt unwanted, and being taken granted for. As he calmed me down, he said that it is not that my seniors or peers did not appreciate or acknowledge my efforts; they notice and make a mental note…they may not express it but they do know what I have accomplished even if they do not tell it to me directly…

At that point of time, I counter questioned; “Why is it so difficult to appreciate someone? Do we become smaller by acknowledging someone ? or It has something to do with human ego?”

Papa further continued that answers to the above questions could be different for different people, and I should not get disheartened and continue doing my work to my best potential without expecting anything in return…

As days passed, came another day at work; An emergency call to resuscitate a patient who needed immediate assistance…we managed to save the patient, who if would not have been attended to timely, could have lost his life...

Being a doctor and an anesthesiologist, all I did that day was my duty...Rather, this was one of the many times I had encountered a similar situation in my little career so far, the only difference being that this time, I was appreciated and acknowledged for helping and being able to make a difference!

As I returned back to my home that day, I could feel the difference those few words of appreciation by the patient, my colleagues and my seniors had on me…I had never felt happier about my job, my work or my duty..and I was only thankful and motivated to give my best every single day ahead….

This was just a small work-related situation, whereas in life we encounter several situations where we are at the receiving end and not a single word of acknowledgment leaves us disheartened and feeling unworthy...

Appreciating others is the simplest yet most powerful things humans can do for each other...It is a person’s greatest emotional need to feel appreciated…

However small the job may be, however, little someone has contributed to your life be it your near and dear ones, your day to day helpers, your colleagues or your subordinates ….Appreciate the good and acknowledge it….It will not only motivate them and make them feel wanted, but it will stay with them for a lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Appreciation can make a day, even change a life..Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary..”

Insight_ Perspective & Positivity ..

Insight_ Perspective & Positivity..

“We do not see things as they are; we see things as we are.”

As a child, and even till date; every conversation with my parents is a learning experience.

Mumma and Papa are very cognizant; at the same time so experienced that their little “pep” talks and stories every time we have a video call leaves me thinking; “Why did I not “see” it like this before?”

The “it” here is my trouble or problem statement…and they are my troubleshooters for they refine my way of seeing the obstacle ahead.

And over the years as I have learnt these lessons...one keyword that has stayed with me is  “Perspective”!

Whenever we encounter a situation, its basic human nature to think negatively about it…it’s the way human brain functions…we tend to think of the worst and slowly eliminate the possibilities…

Though this approach can be helpful; it is time-consuming, mentally exhausting, and not very rational ….

On the other hand, having a positive perspective on things and being open to the other possibilities while simultaneously trying to understand other’s perspective or situation is what makes the situation more acceptable...

As I pen this down, I do not rationalize the socially unacceptable and morally impermissible ideologies and thoughts, but all I wish to put forward is that the world and our real-life situations are multi-faceted and multi-dimensional…there are various ways to look at a given thing, and its what we choose to see that makes all the difference…

I know that in the current world, that is full of deceit, it is difficult to be positive and look at the brighter side of things….But I also know that “Everything happens for a reason” and it is up to us whether we take the good out of it, learn and grow or we let the negativity hold on to us; only to never leave till we do!

“What consumes your mind, controls your life”…

Insight_The settled world and timelines ..

The settled world and timelines...

“Security is when everything is settled and nothing can happen to you; security is the denial of life”.

In the quest to find “happiness” in life, we are all rushing aimlessly towards accomplishing and achieving those milestones which the world around us defines as indispensable….

Be it life goals of cracking the exams, getting a job, getting married, and having children…

Or owning a house and buying a luxury car….the list is never-ending….

We all relate the word “settled “to the attainment of these materialistic and personal goals and all we achieve is just disappointment and dissatisfaction …

For these goals and wishes follow their own “timeline” and the process of settlement is just a feeling of contentment!

It is completely acceptable to dream, have ambitions and look forward to bigger and better things in life….but to be contented with what you have and achieve the mental state where you feel everything you need at a particular point of time in life is what u have, is being “settled”!

Let not your age, the society, or your self-doubt lead you to an unsettled space…

For it's your life, your time, your decisions, and your success!!!

Let not anything or anybody define it for you…

“Life is a timeline, let it happen to you”….

Insight_ Self love

Insight_Self love

“To fall in love with yourself is the first secret to happiness”.

Approval, Acceptance, and Love …the three things that we seek from a person we wish to connect with…
We look for validation for our actions from others, as we interact day to day with people we get along with…
In this tryst of being a “part” of the so-called social circle, we tend to lose a part of ourselves….

When was the last time you wore something that you wanted to without bothering how others would judge you?
When was the last time you said or expressed your opinion without being inhibited by the crowd and the majority?
When was the last time you approved, accepted, and validated your own thoughts and actions without the fear of being left alone?

If these questions make you re-think and relive all those times when you kept the “socially acceptable and appropriate” over and above your own self...Its time to think again...

Can you find happiness if your inner self doesn’t approve or questions your own thoughts and actions?
From our physical appearance to our thoughts….from our actions to our expressions….
The day we learn to love and respect our own self without compromising on anything else is the day we will realize how uniquely we are gifted …
We will realize that there is nothing that we cannot achieve if we are true to our own self and our efforts…
The day we start accepting and loving ourselves for who we are, is the day we will achieve the impossible.
For the biggest obstacle in this journey of life is the lack of self love!!

Insight_The Present …

The Present …

“The next message you need is right where you are.”

As a child, a teenager, and even till I completed my post-graduation, I was running a rat race. A race that I am still a part of...The only difference is that now I choose how fast I wish to run and chase the finishing line. A line which I haven’t seen but have been told exists.

As a  school going teen I was constantly chasing a dream like most of you reading this…A one to be successful, to be recognized, and to excel in every task that I take up. Be it cracking exams or getting the college/field of my choice. Even before I knew I was already in the race…As college started, with every passing day in my five and half years of medical school and three years of post-graduation I had just a few questions that were constant ..“What will happen in the future?”, “How will my actions determine my future?”, “What if the future isn’t how I imagine it to be?”

What I did not realize till some days back was that in the quest for the future, I did not live and cherish the present…Maybe I did, but had I been living my every day to the fullest, giving my best efforts without the constant pressure of the future, I am sure things would have been different.

As I write this, I don’t undermine the importance of hard work and perseverance. It’s just that the constant thought of the past and the stress of the future shaped my every day in a very different way. For the past and the future are both illusions. It is about staying in the moment and living it to the fullest without regrets.
It's said that our past lays the foundation and our present actions build on it and prepare us for the future...But what is the future?

The answer is that there is no future. Nor is there a past. There is only a day and that is today.
In the dynamic world full of uncertainties, let us not burden and ruin the gift of “today”.

Do what makes you happy, talk to people that bring out the best in you,  when you go to bed have no regrets and dream..but unconditionally!
